A Fleets Dancer (13924)

I bring you a very solid Canadian sire this week by request. A Fleets Dancer has a very solid pedigree. This type of sire when paired with top dam sires should be plenty capable of producing a solid stakes winner if not graded stakes winner. Finding information on him was a little tough. So here we go.

Real Life- A Fleets Dancer is by Afleet. His dam sires is Vice Regent and his dam’s dam sire is Turn-To. A Fleets Dancer had a long racing career winning many stakes races including a pair of grade III races. From forty-five races he had twelve wins, six places and eight shows. He raced mostly in Canada and as a six year old was named 2001 Canadian older horse of the year.

He entered stud in 2003. His first foals were born last year so will be two year olds this year. He has a private fee listed so not a lot of information from his farm. His listed progeny are pretty well bred with dam sires Riverman, Gone West and Sky Classic. He already has the Mr. Prospector by Northern Dancer cross in his pedigree.

Sim Life – A Fleets Dancer has twenty-six sim runners. He does have one stakes winner. #19935 Hot Damn Here I Am (Summer Squall). She won those stakes early in her career and has mostly been a sprinter. In Fact nearly all of his progeny are sprinters with very few traveling beyond a mile. His fastest runner posted a 109-speed figure on turf at a mile and a sixteenth.  He has been bargain bred quite a bit and to some speed type dam sires.

His fastest runner was on turf. Most of his progeny have run on dirt. A Fleets Dancer has a dosage index of 5.22 but was a solid route runner as a racehorse. Breeding him back to stamina will likely bring about better results.

Breeding Suggestions – With both Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer in A Fleets Dancer’s pedigree choosing a dam sire can be tricky. Mr. Prospector will show up in the third generation of his progeny and Northern Dancer will show up in the fourth generation. Breed back to either line through grandsons of Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer if you intend a little inbreeding. That will create a 3X4 inbreeding with Mr. Prospector and a 4X4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer.

I think Northern Dancer would be the better sire to inbreed with however I think choosing other sire lines with no inbreeding may be the way to go. The Roberto, Ribot, Raise a Native (other than Mr. Prospector) lines would be good choices. The Bold Ruler line through Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Spectacular Bid would be good choices as well. Breeding stamina to A Fleets Dancer is a must in my book.

Bargain Bred – A Fleets Dancer gets down into the forties by the end of the week. I think eve in a bargain adding stamina is important.

What to Expect – A Fleets Dancer was a pretty good runner through out his career. He ran best as he got older but no reason not to think you can have a little success with his two year olds. Breeding stamina to him should make his runners more versatile. He can produce either turf or dirt so be sure to try his runners on both surfaces. Hopefully using a sire with so many career races and pairing him up with others like him will create a runner that can out last the wear and tear factor.
