Chimes Band (1117)

Sires that have the famous Northern Dancer X Mr. Prospector cross can be tough to breed. I am not a fan of close up inbreeding so choosing dam sires for these types sires can prove a challenge. I tend to stay away from sires of this nature because I am less confident about what will work. Chimes Band is one of those sires. His limited number of Sim progeny have been pretty solid so he is worth a shot.

Real Life- Chimes Band is by Dixieland Band. His dam sire is Mr. Prospector and his dam’s dam sire is Hail to Reason.  He was a good sprinter winning seven of nineteen starts. He won the King’s Bishop Stakes GII and Fall Highweight Handicap GII. He did win a turf stakes to go along with his dirt stakes. He is already inbred to Native Dancer 4X4. He has produced sixteen percent stakes winners in real life. His progeny have not yet made a mark in major stakes races in the states but he produces very solid runners.

He has a couple of solid runners by sons of Seattle Slew ( Taj Alrivadh and Slew O’ Gold). The Damascus and Nasrullah lines have crossed well with Chimes Band. Chimes Band has the kind of speed that when paired with the right amount of stamina could very well produce a runner capable of contending on the Kentucky Derby trail.

Sim Life – Chimes Band has thirty-seven runners in the sim. Seven runners have eclipsed the 100-speed figure mark and two are stakes winners. He has produced runners that can sprint and get a distance of ground. His runners have run better on dirt but he has produced a couple of good turf horses as well.  Read some of these dam sires that produced solid runners; Lil E Tee, Envoy, Greinton (GB), Tough Knight, Naevus, Taj Alrivadh, and Danzig Connection. All bargain priced and from a variety of sire lines. He has been paired only a couple of times with high priced dam sires, which produced mixed results. It is hard to get a feel for what works well with Chimes Band. Simmers have bred him with dam sires that add a little stamina for the most part.

Breeding Suggestions – In real life he was not bred many times to dam sires from either the Northern Dancer or Mr. Prospector lines. In the Sim of course he has been bred back to both lines with some success. I would choose from a couple of sire lines. Seattle Slew, Ribot, In Reality, Damascus, and Bold Ruler/Nasrullah. Solid sprint dam sires such as Bold Ruckus, Raja Baba, Clever Trick, and Slew O’ Gold would all be solid choices. With different lines working at different distances on distance surfaces it makes it tough to pin point a solid direction. For a sprinter I would use Clever Trick X Raja Baba. For a shot at a horse that could get ten furlongs I would try Private Account X Stage Door Johnny. For a turf horse I would inbreed to Northern Dancer. Trempolino X Irish River (FR).

Bargain Bred – Chimes Band gets down to around 50 BPs at the end of the week. He has successfully been bred with less expensive sires already in the Sim. There are a couple of breedings I like. I think I would shoot for a pure sprinter with Hadif X Distinctive.  The other way I would go with a bargain bred would be to breed a runner geared for the turf Manzotti X Minnesota Mac.

What to Expect – Chimes Band’s progeny should run well at two. In real life his runners are pretty good as two year olds. He only has three two year olds so far this year. One has been on posting a 67 speed figure the other has not been so good. His runners will likely peak sooner than later.
