Congaree (15158)
Congaree is by Arazi. His dam sire is Mari’s Book (Northern Dancer) and his dam’s dam sire is Known Fact (In Reality). His dosage index indicates a good amount of stamina at 1.82 but he never really carried that over to the race track. He eventually won a grade I race at a mile and a quarter but for the most part he excelled from seven furlongs to a mile and an eighth. His sire Arazi was a two year old wonder.
Congaree boasts grade I victories at seven furlongs, a mile, and mile and an eighth and a mile and a quarter. He really came to the forefront by winning the Wood Memorial in his three year old season. He would go onto finish third in the derby after pressing a fast pace. His best year may have been his five year old season when he scored three grade I victories at three different distances. Congaree was a speed demon and could carry that speed pretty well.
Congaree has thirty-four sim runners already and nine of them have already broken their maiden. Three runners have tried the turf with pretty solid results. Of his top five fastest runners to date the top three have been fillies and four of the five are fillies. Congaree is off to a very solid start in his first sim crop.
Congaree is inbred to Northern Dancer 3X3 so I would avoid the Northern Dancer line. Simmers seem to agree and have not bred him back to the Northern Dancer lines in most cases. The Mr. Prospector line sires seem and excellent choice to pair with Congaree. Unbridled, Forty Niner, Seeking The Gold, have all been used with success. Other Raise a Native line sires like Alydar, Affirmed, and Majestic Light should work well. The Seattle Slew line should blend well with Congaree as will the Buckpasser line. The Turn-To line is another sire line that should blend well with Congaree.

Congaree should produce early runners. He also should pass along longevity to his runners so it would not be unusual to see some late bloomers. His runners should run best on dirt and they may be better milers than mile and a quarter horses. Even so Arazi was solid on the turf so it would not be out of the question for Congaree to produce the odd turf runner. He may be the surprise of the freshman crop producing better than some of the bigger more expensive sires. |
