Double Deposit (12913)

This week in the Breeding Corner we cover a sire with some Sim ties. I got to meet Double Deposit’s owners at this past years Breeder’s Cup, Rbokie and the lovely Karie. They have probably bred most of Double Deposit’s sim runners and he has produced some solid runners from a small number of offspring. He is a worthy sire to consider when breeding. www.doubledeposit.com

Real Life- Double Deposit is by Deposit Ticket. His dam sire is Windjammer and his dam’s dam sire is Kings Bench (GB).  His pedigree is very solid with both Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer present. In fact Double Deposit is an excellent sire to use to inbreed to Northern Dancer and or Mr. Prospector. His dosage index is 3.00 indicating a bit of stamina and a bit of speed.

Double Deposit only raced three times. He had a show and a win in maiden company. In his first start against winners he was injured and then retired. He has only been at stud for a very short time so no real life runners to date.

Sim Life – He currently has twenty sim runners. He has produced one stakes winner and another seven allowance winners, which is very solid for a sire not used a whole lot. His stakes winner is now six and ran his best winning a couple of stakes as a three-year-old. His dam sire is Devil His Due and dam’s dam sire is Cojak. Most of his runners are getting a little older and the older ones seemed to do their best running at ages three and four.

It is very interesting to see how in a lot of cases his offspring can run well on both surfaces. Not a stakes winner but probably his best runner is horse #33465 Karie Prospect. Of her seven wins four are on dirt and three are on turf. She has posted 100+ speed figures in dirt sprints, dirt routes 8f-9f, turf sprints and turf routes 8f-9f. Even at six years old and after forty-one races she appears to be a solid runner.

In most cases Double Deposit has produced sprinters but he seems plenty capable of producing route runners as well. His runners like both surfaces and the versatility in his production makes should make him a desirable sire.

Breeding Suggestions – I like the idea of inbreeding back to both Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector in a way that produced Karie Prospect. I think a key sire line to include when breeding with Double Deposit is the Buckpasser line. His pedigree is very versatile in which just about all sire lines would seem good fits. Seattle Slew, Halo, Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector, Bold Ruler, Ribot, Roberto. He would be a fun sire to experiment with several different combinations.

Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector will appear in the fourth generation of Double Deposit’s offspring. Using a grandson of either Northern Dancer or Mr. Prospector would produce 4X4 inbreeding. Using a son of either of the mentioned sires would create 4X3 inbreeding.

I would look for dam sires and dam’s dam sires from the Northern Dancer line and Mr. Prospector lines that have Buckpasser as dam sire. To name a couple from the Northern Dancer line there is El Gran Senor, Glow, and Polish Numbers. The Mr. Prospector line Buckpasser cross maybe more desirable with Seeking the Gold, Woodman, Miswaki, or Mining.

Double Deposit (12913) X El Gran Senor (1894) X Silver Ghost (5843)

For those not wanting to inbreed I think using the Buckpasser line must be considered. Here are a few Buckpasser line sires Spend a Buck, Silver Buck, L’Enjoleur, Buckaroo, Buck Finder, and Pass the Glass. Combining those line sires with sires from the Roberto, Ribot, In Reality, Seattle Slew, Bold Ruler and Halo lines would be solid combinations.

Bargain Bred – Double Deposit is less than 20 BPs by weeks end so is a very good candidate for bargain breeding. He has also produced some very solid bargain bred runners. I would concentrate on using the same lines above. Most of the Buckpasser line sires are on the inexpensive side.

What to Expect – Versatility. In all likely hood if you breed a little stamina back to Double Deposit you could get a versatile runner that can run on both surfaces at a variety of distances. His two year olds should run well and his runners will probably peak in the three year old to four-year-old range. Even so his runners seem plenty useful after many races and five years old and older. His runners have the potential to be solid BP producers.

www.doubledeposit.com is a fun site to explore so get over there if you get a chance. Rbokie, Karie I wish you the best of luck with Double Deposit and it has been a pleasure covering him in the Breeding Corner.
