Hard Buck (BRZ) (15190)
Hard Buck (BRZ) – is by Spend a Buck (Buckpasser). His dam sire is Secreto (Northern Dancer) and his dam’s dam sire is Vaguely Noble. Hard Buck performed well on four continents. Over all he finished first or second in fourteen of nineteen career starts. He ran as a two and three year old in Brazil winning three stakes at three and running second to Pico Central in his only defeat. He then came to the States as a four-year-old winning three stakes in four starts. After a grade I win to begin his five-year-old season in the states he traveled to Dubai for the Sheema Classic where he ran second to Polish Summer. He would then go on to England that year and ran second in the King George VI to Doyen. He retired after that due to injury.
Pedigree wise he has a nice blend of speed and stamina. He was a good ten-furlong horse and ran well up to a mile and a half. Northern Dancer will appear in the fourth generation of his progeny so using a grandson of Northern Dancer in the dam sire slot or using a son of Northern Dancer in the dam’s dam sire slot will create a 4X4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer. The Raise a Native line (Mr. Prospector, Alydar, Affirmed) as well as the Seattle Slew line will probably work pretty well with Hard Buck.
Other lines that should blend in well will be the Ribot, Turn-To, and Nasrullah. You will want to be sure to breed a little stamina back into Hard Buck if you want to get that long distance runner.

Hard Buck (BRZ) (15190) X Gold Legend (2478) X Herat (2757)
Hard Buck (BRZ) was a solid two year old but no stakes winner. He really picked it up and ran well at age three, four and five. He might have kept going had an injury not forced him into retirement. He was a good long distance turf horses however he has the potential to produce a little of everything. His runners could be good on dirt just as well as turf. He has been bred twice in the sim thus far and neither horse has raced yet. |
