Johar (15204)

Johar is by Gone West. His dam sire is Lear Fan and his dam’s dam sire is Sharpen Up (GB). While the dam sire and dam’s dam sire are solid the actual dam they produced Windsharp was a champion turf mare and her first two foals she produced are both grade I winners. Johar brings a very strong pedigree top the sim.

Johar did not get his racing career going until he was three. He made eleven starts at three winning two graded stakes. He really came into his own toward the end of his three year old season. He carried that form over to his four year old season although he only raced five times as a four year old. He race in only graded stakes as a four year old and leading up to the Breeder’s Cup there were doubts about his ability to go a mile and a half. He proved the distance was no problem and ran a great race to dead heat with High Chaparral.

In the sim Johar is off to a little bit of a slow start. He does have four winners already. His fastest runners have run speed figures in the mid to upper sixties. A majority of his runners have debuted on turf. His few dirt runners so far have not been very impressive. Simmers have used a few Mr. Prospector line dam sires and dam’s dam sires along with the Roberto line. I do not like either choice because of the inbreeding created to Mr. Prospector or Roberto. This is one of those sires I would stay away from inbreeding.

Johar’s pedigree is just screaming for Northern Dancer blood. Nijinsky II and Nureyev might be might first couple of choices from the Northern Dancer line. Sadlers’s Wells also seems a good fit. The Nasrullah line through Never Bend and Red God like Blushing Groom (FR), Mill Reef, Riverman, Rahy, Rainbow Quest, and Shirley Heights (GB) would make good choices. The Ribot, Seattle Slew, Damascus lines should all blend well. The Turn-To line though Sir Ivor like Zabeel (NZ), and Octagonal (NZ). The raise a Native line with Affirmed and Majestic Light should also be solid with Johar.

Johar did not make his first start until he was three so I would not expect him to have a huge impact with his two year olds. They will likely not develop to their top level until they turn three. They should be best on turf mainly because of the very turfy dam side of his pedigree but with Gone West as his dad he could produce pretty well on the dirt.
