Java Gold

In thinking about sires that would potentially produce late blooming offspring Java Gold came to mind. He ran very well as a two year old and has produced runners that run well as two year olds but most of his better runners developed as three year olds. Maybe his best runner peaked at five and six and won stakes at eight and nine.

Real Life- Java Gold is by Key To The Mint. His dam sire is Nijinsky and his dam’s dam sire is Tim Tam. He has a good deal of stamina and his offspring can show a good deal of speed. Java Gold himself was quite the runner. At two he won the grade I Remsem and was second in the grade I Cowdin. At three he really hit stride late in the year winning the grade I Travers, Marlboro Cup and Whitney. He also finished second in the Jockey Gold Cup.

His best runner is Kona Gold the champion sprinter. He was a very good horse for a very longtime and stayed sound during that time. Mocha Express was another of his runners that bloomed late. Mocha was a stakes winner at three and four but his best year was as a five-year hold when he won six of nine races five being stakes. Grand Jewel another solid runner of Java Gold’s. He was a good three year old winning the grade II Lexington and grade II Fayette.

He also produced a multiple grade I winner named Boreal who raced mostly in Germany and a horse named Sian’s Gold. I could not find much information regarding Sian’s Gold but she dominated racing in Trinidad being named champion sprinter three times and champion stayer twice.

His top runners were from varied sire lines. A couple of his better runner’s dams were sons of Northern Dancer creating a 3X4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer.

Sim Life – In sim life Java Gold has one hundred thirty-one runners with fourteen stakes winners. He has produced better dirt runners and they have excelled at distances over a mile. He better runners have been bred mostly to the Raise a Native line using pretty solid dam sires like, Mr. Prospector, Silver Ghost, Strike the Gold, and Gone West. Both the Northern Dancer line and Seattle Slew line have had decent results. Private Account, Rahy, and Red Ransom produced solid runners.

Breeding Suggestions – The Raise a Native line has really produced well with Java Gold in the sim. There have not been a lot of sons of Northern Dancer used as dam sire and I think that that inbreeding could work well in the sim. Inbreeding to Ribot has worked quite a bit in the sim. I say stick with what works and use a horse from the Raise a Native line then cross that with a son of Northern Dancer.

Bargain Bred – Java Gold’s stud fee does not currently get low enough to breed bargains with him however three of his top real life runners are at stud in the sim. All of them are cheap and interesting.

Boreal (GER) may have the most potential. He is after all a multiple grade I winner on the turf and can be bred for around 20 BPs by weeks end. Just about any sire line would seem to fit but lets narrow it down a bit. Using a grandson of Northern Dancer like Storm Cat would be ideal but this is a bargain bred. A breeding using a grandson of Northern Dancer as the dam sire would create a 4X5 inbreeding as well as a breeding using a son of Northern Dancer as dam’s dam sire. The Raise a Native line and Seattle Slew line would also seem solid choices. He currently has one runner in the sim and that two year old has not been bad.

Grand Jewel is probably the best bred of his sons with his dam sire being Alydar. Grand Jewel will get down between 10-15 BPs by the weeks end. Storm Cat and Deputy Minister jump out at me as dam sire choices but I have to remind myself this is a bargain-bred suggestion. I also think I would try a different direction and use a dam sire from the Roberto line. He only has four runners in the sim and two of those are eight years old. One of the eight year olds was pretty solid.

Mocha Express was well placed in his career and he won fourteen times from thirty-three starts with nine more seconds. He nearly earned a million dollars and was a solid runners at three, four, and five. He is the most expensive of Java Gold’s sons ending the week between 15-20 BPs. He has eight runners in the sim and a couple of runners look pretty solid.

What to Expect –Expect a slow developer with Java Gold. His better offspring seem to mature late in their three year old season although do not be surprised if you two year old can run. In many of his better runners they looked to have toped out as three year olds. They would run say high eighties to mid nineties speed figures. Then all of the sudden at the end of their three year old season or as a four year old they improved. Try them on both surfaces. Many of his top runners run well on both turf and dirt.
