Medaglia D’oro (15222)

Medaglia D’oro is by El Prado (IRE). His dam sire is Bailjumper (Damascus) and his dam’s dam sire is Silent Screen. His pedigree is completely free the Raise a Native / Mr. Prospector line. Northern Dancer will appear in the fourth generation of his offspring a prime inbreeding position. His pedigree has good stamina and solid speed to go along with a very good race record.

Medaglia D’oro showed up in the biggest races and finished second in nearly every one of them. As a three year old he was second in the Wood Memorial, the Belmont, and the Breeder’s Cup Classic. At four he was second in the Pacific Classic to Candy Ride and then second again in the Breeder’s Cup classic. He would end his career with a second place finish in the Dubai World Cup. He was a grade I winner at ages three, four and five but when faced with the best competition he seemed to fall just short.

He has twenty-two runners thus far with six winners already. Most of his runners have been on the dirt so far but his two biggest money earners this early in the year both have won on turf. A nice mix of top dam sires have been used thus far with Danzig, Kingmambo, Gone West, Nureyev, and Miswaki.

Since Medaglia D’oro’s pedigree is free and clear of the Raise a Naïve line that would appear the best place to start. Mr. Prospector line sires should be very popular in real life with Medaglia D’oro. Also consider using other strong Raise a Native line sires Aydar, Affirmed, and Majestic Light. I like grand sons of Northern Dancer to create a 4X4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer. Although early on in the sim sons of Northern Dancer have produced pretty solid. Get outside those two lines and everything looks good like Seattle Slew, Halo, Buckpasser, Ribot, In Reality, Diesis (GB), Octagonal (NZ), Zabeel (NZ).

Medaglia D’oro (15222) X Seeking the Gold (5687) X Blushing Groom (FR) (669)

Medaglia D’oro (15222) X Deputy Minister (1600) X Majestic Light (3739)

Medaglia D’oro got a little bit of a late start to his racing career with only one start as a two year old. El Prado (IRE) is not known as a two year old sire and I would imagine Medaglia D’oro’s runners will probably do the same. I would look for his runners to really start coming into their own during their three and four year old seasons. He will produce well on both surfaces and most of his runners should be better route horses.
