Military (11115)

For the second week in a row the Breeding Corner finds it’s way to covering a sire from a major sire line. Military is a young stallion that is starting to put himself on the map. He has five stakes winners from his first three crops including recent grade I winner Gun Salute. He is producing on dirt and turf in real life and sim life. Lets take a closer look at this young sire.

Real Life- Military is by Danzig. His dam sire is Wavering Monarch (Majestic Light) and his dam’s dam sire is His Majesty (Ribot). Military is the rare Danzig son with a low dosage index. His dosage is 2.08 and he did a majority of his racing at distances of a mile and a quarter and further. As a three year old he raced in England and was not all that great. As a four year old he came to America and flourished. He won a grade I and a grade II during the year. He won five of twelve lifetime before retiring.

Military has seventy five foals of racing age with four stakes winners and one graded stakes winner. His best runner going is Gun Salute. He won the G2 American Derby in July and more recently he won the G1 Secretariat over a very good runner named English Channel. He also has a couple of other stakes winners this year.

His pedigree provides for a couple of very interesting inbreeding. Native Dancer and Ribot appear in the fifth generation of Military’s runners. Inbreeding to one or both of these sires is present in several of his stakes winners.

Sim Life – Military has fifty-nine runners in the sim. He has produced seven stakes winners from those fifty nine runners. Java Gold is the dam sire of two of the stakes winners. Java Gold is from the Ribot line and using Java Gold as dam sire creates a 5X5 inbreeding to Ribot. Crafty Prospector has produced a couple of stakes winners as a dam sire as well. Son’s of Mr. Prospector like Crafty Prospector create a 5X5 inbreeding to Native Dancer.

Two of those stakes winners were graded winners but now at age five with fifty races each they are no longer winning stakes. Military has produced both turf and dirt stakes winners and one each at the graded level. His runners have higher average speeds over a mile than they do in sprints.

Breeding Suggestions – Military’s pedigree provides us with a good opportunity to inbreed to Ribot or Native Dancer. His top real life runner has Roberto as the dam sire. The Roberto line is a solid choice to breed back to Military. Other Turn-To line sires are solid choices as well as Seattle Slew, Damascus, Nasrullah, and Mr. Prospector.

If you want to get a solid route horse breeding stamina back to Military is a good idea. Even though Military has a solid distance pedigree when bred back to more speedy dam sires he will produce more speedy offspring.

Bargain Bred – Military gets down into the fifties BP wise at the end of the week. That makes it somewhat difficult to get solid bargain breds from him. There are several less expensive sires that may fit well with Military.

What to Expect –Military’s real life runners tend to take a little time to mature. They do not really blossom until they turn three. Military himself did not really blossom until he was four. Still I would expect solid two year olds, with runners that generally are their best as three and four year olds. Your runner could like either surface. Military tends to produce a few more dirt runners but many of his runners can run well on the turf. His runners will probably like to run better over a mile.
