BARGAIN BRED RACING SERIES & BREEDING CORNER

Home Freshman of 2003 Freshman of 2004 Freshman of 2005 Freshman of 2006

Nayef – is by Gulch. His dam sire is Bustino (GB) and his dam’s dam sire is Queen’s Hussar (GB). He won nine races in sixteen starts from ages two to five. He won four grade I races from ten furlongs to twelve furlongs on turf in Europe. He did manage a third place finish in the Dubai World Cup on Dirt. Tough guy who competed well with Golan, Falbrav, Islington and Moon Ballad.

Being from the Mr. Prospector line and not having any Northern Dancer in his pedigree I would imagine Northern Dancer line mares will be the most popular choice and maybe the best choice. Other lines that should blend well would be the Never Bend, Ribot, Seattle Slew and Roberto lines. A variety of choices could work well with this versatile pedigree.

At this point there are only 18 young runners for Nayef. Nayef has a couple of expensive dam sires but has been mostly bred to cheaper sires. Eight runners debuted on dirt and the fastest was a 50. Another seven have started on turf the fastest ran a 66. Four of the seven were 50+ on the turf. Northern Dancer line mares were used in breeding of about half the runners. His runners should run well as two year olds but may take some time to develop.
