Pivotal (GB) (4812)

The folks at Cheveley Park Stud refer to this guy as “One of the worlds leading stallions”. That statement may be a little far fetched but truth is he has been very good. He had thirteen stakes winners in 2004 but you would never know that by looking at his sim runners. This guy has a great pedigree and if his runners keep winning he might just be a diamond in the rough.

Real Life- Pivotal (GB) is by Polar Falcon (Nureyev). His dam sire is Cozzene and his dam’s dam sire is Bustino. His pedigree drips with stamina though and through and his dosage index is 1.20 however he was a top notch sprinter. He won four of six races lifetime between five and six furlongs including a group I and a group II stakes. He was also pretty fast running the second fastest time ever in both of his group wins.

In six crops of racing age he has produced thirty five stakes winners. That’s pretty good. A few have made there way to the states such as 2002 Champion Turf Filly Golden Apples. Megahertz is another runner by Pivotal that has excelled in the states. This year he sired the top two finishers in the Irish 1000 Guineas, Saoire and Penkenna Princess. He also has produced two champion sprinters in Europe. Somnus in 2004 and Kyllachy in 2002.

He has been able to produce both route horses and sprinters. Inbreeding to Northern Dancer is present in a few of his runners and Tudor Minstrel is present in a couple of his stakes runners. Golden Apples was inbred to Caro, and even Bold Ruler line sires have been used in some of his runners. He has been successful with a number of sire lines.

Sim Life – Pivotal has around fifty-five active runners in the sim and not one stakes winner. In fact a quick look through his retired runners and I cannot find a stakes winner. Maybe this guy has fallen through the cracks. It’s not like simmers have bred him with cheap dam sires. He has been bred to Carson City, Dynaformer, Rahy, Darshaan, Dayjur, Dixieland Band, Ela-Mana-Mou, Kris S., Lear Fan, Miswaki, Pleasant Colony, and Rainbow Quest. He has just four runners with more than one allowance win.

His has twelve two year olds and just one is a winner. He has two more two year olds that look solid but the rest are not very good. Breeding to this guy is going to be a challenge.

Breeding Suggestions – Inbreeding to Northern Dancer seems a solid place to start. Using a son of Northern Dancer will give you a 4X3 inbreeding to Northern Dancer and a grandson will give you a 4X4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer. The Mr. Prospector line has not been a big player in real life and his couple in the sim are not all that good.

The Seattle Slew line has not really been utilized and I think that line will fit well with Pivotal. Septieme Ciel, Slew City Slew, Seattle Song and Slewpy could all blend well as well as Seattle Slew himself. The Buckpasser line should also get high consideration.

Son’s of Blushing Groom (FR) are worth considering even though Rainbow Quest and Rahy have not been successful when used with Pivotal in the sim. Nasrullah line sires through Never Bend like Mill Reef and Riverman could be good sire choices. The Ribot sire line should blend well as will some of the lesser used sire lines.

Pivotal (GB) (4812) X Septieme Ciel (5711) X Buckaroo (871)

Pivotal (GB) (4812) X Silver Buck (5835) X Mill Reef (3979)

Since he has been good at producing sprinter how about this sprinty pedigree.

Pivotal (GB) (4812) X Phone Trick (4781) X Relaunch (5255)

Bargain Bred – Pivotal makes a solid bargain sire prospect. He gets down to the mid 30’s at the end of the week. I would use the same principles.

Pivotal (GB) (4812) X Manzotti (3799) X Minnesota Mac (3994)

Pivotal (GB) (4812) X Tinners Way (6627) X Slewpy (5965)

What to Expect – Pivotal was a good two year old and he has produced solid two year olds in real life. His runners should run well at two and three with most probably peaking at three or four. Megahertz has been very good as an older horse so there could be some solid durability in Pivotal offspring. In real life he produces almost all turf runners but in the sim his runners have been much faster on the dirt. He is versatile and has the ability to produce route runners and sprinters so be sure to move your runner around.
