Pleasantly Perfect (15249)

Pleasantly Perfect is by Pleasant Colony. His dam sire is Affrimed and his dam’s dam sire is Lyphard. His pedigree is very solid pedigree through and through with an excellent mix of speed and stamina. Three major lines are represented with Ribot, Raise a Native, and Northern Dancer. He might surprise people producing some pretty good sprinters despite his stamina back ground.

He had injury troubles as a youth and as a result he really did not get his racing career going until he was four. The year he broke his maiden and earned his first graded win. He would have gone on to the Breeder’s Cup Classic that year were it not for Illinois laws on bleeding. The time between his last race and the Classic was too short for the Illinois law. So he came out the next year at five and ran very well in southern California graded stakes. He ended the year with a win in the Breeder’s Cup classic over Medaglai D’oro, He would then go on at six to win the Dubai World Cup and the Pacific Classic before losing in last year’s Classic to Ghostzapper.

Pleasantly Perfect has twenty three runners in the sim but only three winners so far. His runners look very nice and are off to very good starts. Rightfully so he has been bred to the best of the best dam sire wise like Storm Cat, Sadler’s Wells, Seeking the Gold, Gone West, Kingmambo, Seattle Slew, Woodman, War Chant, and Nureyev.

Pleasantly Perfect has the type of pedigree to be versatile enough to produce dirt runners, turf runners, sprinters or routers. Northern Dancer line dam sires have been used quite a bit and with some early success but I think the Mr. Prospector line makes more sense. Seeking the Gold, Woodman, Unbridled, Forty Niner, Gone West, Gulch, Miswaki all would make good choices. Seattle Slew and sons also seem a good fit at dam sire. Turn-To, Damascus, In Reality, and Bold Ruler lines should all blend well.

Any who read regularly know I think that inbreeding to Ribot is a pretty solid angle. It works pretty well with cheaper grand sons of Ribot.  In the case of Pleasantly Perfect I do not like the inbreeding done through the dam’s dam sire spot. If done it should be done through the dam sire slot and Key to the Mint is the only grand son I really like. To create that inbreeding other wise will need to find a dam sire like Forty Niner whose dam sire (Tom Rolfe) is a son of Ribot.

There is so much classic influence in Pleasantly Perfect I would imagine those are the types of runners he will produce. It will not surprise me to see his runners also show some speed and be solid sprinters but even those types of his runners will likely like distances over a mile. Since he got such a late start on his career it would not surprise me to find out that his runners take a little time to develop but they look like pretty sold two year olds.
