Raffie’s Majesty (9586)

For a lesser known sire this guy really had a good freshman sire year. That class is now five years old but he has continued to put out solid runners and is getting bred to better and better dams. Those familiar with New York racing have probably heard of Raffie’s Majesty. He has an interesting pedigree and could be a useful sire here in the sim.

Real Life- Raffie’s Majesty is by Cormorant (Ribot). His dam sire is the under valued German sire Surumu (GER) and the dam’s dam sire is another German sire Dschingis Khan. He is free and clear of both Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer. His dosage index is 1.10 indicating a good deal of stamina. As a runner Raffie’s Majesty was a solid performer. He ran second in the G3 Flamingo, third in the G1 Travers and third in the G2 Jim Dandy. He raced just eight times in a short racing career but flashed some talent during those eight races.

In his freshman crop he produced 88% winners and 38% stakes winners. This year’s three year olds may not be as good but he looks to have a solid career as a stud. He already has several runners with career earning over $100,000 and a few more that are sure to earn that much in the near future.

Sim Life – He is not used much in the sim as one might imagine. He has just eleven active runners with his fastest runner posting an 88 speed figure. That speed figure was on turf and I think Raffie’s Majesty has some very solid turf influence. Other than one or two runners his sim runners are junk. That should only inspire the breeder.

In only one of his sim runners is the Northern Dancer line used in the dam sire slot and that is a grandson of Sadler’s Wells. Surumu (GER) in real life is producing great when bred to Northern Dancer line sires. In fact a Surumu X The Minstrel runner, Shirocco,  will be participating in the up coming Breeder’s Cup Turf.

Raffie has not been bred to any Mr. Prospector line sires. That is strange even for a lesser used sire. He has been mostly bargain bred and he has no two year olds at all right now.

Breeding Suggestions – This pedigree screams for the Northern Dancer line to me. Mr. Prospector line sires should also fit well. I like sons of Northern Dancer quite a bit here. Storm Bird, The Minstrel, Secreto, Shareef Dancer, Unfuwain, El Gran Senor or Be My Guest. In real life one of the better Raffie’s Majesty runners is out of a Summer Squall mare. I also like Northern Dancer grandsons and there are a ton to chose from.

Those Roberto sons should also be considered when searching out a dam sire. Seattle Slew and Buckpasser line sires should also be considered as they mix well with Northern Dancer and Ribot. Also Blushing Groom and sons should be given consideration. The Blushing Groom line has produced a couple of solid real life runners.

Bargain Bred – Raffie’s Majesty is a prime candidate for bargain bred breeding. He gets down into the thirties at the end of most weeks some times cheaper.

Raffie’s Majesty (9586) X Dahar (1449) X Pass the Glass (4694)

Raffie’s Majesty (9586) X Excavate (1995) X Manzotti ( 3799)

What to Expect – Raffie’s Majesty has the type of pedigree to make one think his runners will tend to develop later as three year olds and four year olds. However he has produced solid two year olds as did his sire Cormorant. I think his pedigree is pretty turfy however he did his running on the dirt and his real life off spring are running mostly on the dirt. Give him a try on both surfaces. He has plenty of stamina so his runners should like routes.
