Statue of Liberty (14774)

By request the Breeding Corner brings to you Statue of Liberty. He is a freshman sire here in the sim and what a pedigree. Simmers have taken notice and have already bred forty-six two-year-olds so far this year.

Real Life- Statue of Liberty is by Storm Cat. His dam sire is Seattle Slew and his dam’s dam sire is Buckpasser. On the track he had to be somewhat disappointing only winning two of seven starts with one place. He did win a grade III and placed in a grade I before retiring. He broke his maiden and won the grade III as a two year old. Still after being bought for 1.3 million as a yearling his race record is under whelming.  Good thing for him he will stand a Coolmore so he should have every opportunity to produce as a sire.

Sim Life – A freshman sire of 46 thus far in the sim and he already has one stakes winner. #90280 Freedom Hall has won three of four flashing a lot of speed. His best turf runner is #35401 Lostintranslation. Despite running speed figures on turf that could have won him a stakes race by now he just broke his maiden. Overall his two year olds look very solid. On dirt thirteen runners have already gone over the 70-speed figure mark and on turf another four. He has been bred to some pretty nice dam sires and dam’s dam sires and the Mr.Prospector line has been the popular choice as dam sire.

To play devil’s advocate he has been bred to some very nice dam sires (Gone West four times and Forty Niner three times) and only one stakes win so far and only one other allowance winner? That seems kind of low considering the solid dams sires. Still the speed figures seem to be there for his offspring and many of them have the look to be talented.

Breeding Suggestions – Really the only major sire line missing from his pedigree would be the Raise a Native line through his sons Mr. Prospector, Alydar, and Affirmed. Northern Dancer will appear in the fourth generation of Statue of Liberty’s progeny so a grandson of Northern Dancer used as dam sire would create a 4X4 inbreeding. The Ribot, and Damascus lines would also seem very good choices.

In two of his faster progeny Secretariat is used as dam’s dam sire, which creates a 4X3 inbreeding to Secretariat. I think traditionally Alydar has blended better with both Storm Cat and Seattle Slew than has Mr. Prospector. A quick glance through the breedings and no one has used Alydar or any of his sons and grandsons. Here are a couple of suggestions I would like to try.

Statue of Liberty (14774) X Alydar (200) X Secretariat (5677)

Statue of Liberty (14774) X Turkoman (6813) X Damascus (1457)

Statue of Liberty (14774) X Affirmed (83) X Lyphard (3691)

What to Expect – At this point Statue of Liberty is on the expensive side for a freshman sire. Statue of Liberty was undefeated as a two-year-old so his runners should run be able to run well early. He has a solid amount of stamina so his progeny will probably prefer distances over a mile as they get older. He excelled on turf in real life and there is no reason his sim runners will do as well on turf as on dirt. Be patient with his runners. I believe his runners will more than likely peak earlier than most but it still may take some time for them to hit their best stride.
