Successful Appeal (13290)

The message board inspired me to cover Successful Appeal. He is off to a fast start this year as a freshman sire in real life. He has been available to breed to here in the sim for three years. So far simmers have done a pathetic job breeding to Successful Appeal. He may not have done much in the sim so far but I see a great opportunity.

Real Life- Successful Appeal is by Valid Appeal (In Reality). His dam sire is Fortunate Prospect (Mr. Prospector), and his dam’s dam sire is Staff Writer (Northern Dancer). He was a very solid sprinter. He did not win a grade I race but he did win a grade II at ages two, three, and four. Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer will appear in the fifth generation of his offspring.

He is a freshman sire in real life this year and his son Lunarpal (Quiet American) just swept all three of the major stakes for two year old colts at the recently concluded Churchill Downs meet. Two daughters have won stakes already. One (Two Punch) broke her maiden by eight and a half lengths and the other (Diablo) won the Nursery Stakes. He has another winner out of a Capote mare and a second place finisher out of a Wild Again mare. For an inexpensive sire ($6,000) he has been bred to some solid bloodlines and it has shown on the track.

Sim Life –His older progeny all ten of them totally blow. One allowance win between the ten and that had to be a CPU allowance. All of them were cheaply bred. He has eleven two year olds most on the heals of Lunerpal’s recent success. These two year olds are bred much better and six of them have already hit the track. Each has one start and while there are no wins the speed figures are solid. 73,68,60,57,50,34. The 34 is a horse heavily inbred to In Reality. West By West (Mr. Prospector), The Prime Minister (Northern Dancer) and Matty G (Seattle Slew) were used as dam sires for the fastest three runners.

Breeding Suggestions – Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer are already in Successful Appeal’s pedigree.  They will appear in the fifth generation of his offspring so breeding back to either one of these lines should do well. The Seattle Slew line has always seemed to work well with the In Reality line. I also like the looks of Halo or any of his sons. Damascus, Raise a Native, Nasrullah, Icecapade, and Bold Ruler are all solid lines that should cross well.

There are many directions to go. I would never even consider inbreeding back to In Reality. Specific dam sires I like with Successful Appeal are Devil’s Bag, Saint Ballado, Diablo, Halo, Seattle Slew, Capote, Slew O’Gold, Clever Trick, Phone Trick, Affirmed, Never Bend, Red God, Raja Baba, Bold Ruckus, Honor Grades, Blue Bird, Carson City, Silver Ghost, Quiet American, End Sweep, Marquetry.

Successful Appeal (13290) X Phone Trick (4781) X Devil’s Bag (1635).

Bargain Bred – Successful Appeal is a cheaper sire that gets down into the mid 40’s by the end of the week. There should be a solid number of capable dam sires available. For just a pure sprinter I might try Successful Appeal (13290) X Just a Cat (3223) X Slew O’ Gold (5945). You might have to wait till Saturday night to get that breeding. Another way I might try is Successful Appeal (13290) X Tricky Creek (6748) X Slewpy (5965).

What to Expect – Successful Appeal did his best running as a two and three year old. He was a sprinter type so I would expect his offspring to be good at two and three. His progeny should not take a long time to develop. He did raced on dirt but In Reality has some turf influence so it would be prudent to try both surfaces. If you pair him with dam sires with a turf influence he could produce solid turf runners but I would expect most of his runners to love the dirt.

Successful Appeal is a much better sire than he has shown in the sim. If bred to some solid lines he should be capable of producing a stakes winner. Will you be the one?
