Tinners Way (6627)

Looking back at the Triple Crown winners I am still amazed at the lack of success Secretariat had in producing a son to continue the line. He was crazy fast and bred to topnotch mares. Some of his sons unfortunately did not live long enough like Risen Star. I searched through those sons available to breed two year olds with looking for the one I thought the best. All of his sons eligible to breed two year olds are inexpensive. I think Tinners Way is the best son of Secretariat currently at stud.

Real Life- Tinners Way is by Secretariat. His dam sire is The Minstrel and his dam’s dam sire is Song. He won seven times in his career with earnings over 1.8 million. He twice won the Grade I Pacific Classic. He also won the Grade I Californian Stakes. He equaled the mile and a quarter track record at Del Mar with a time of 1:59.2. He started his career on turf in England before coming to the states as a three-year-old and placed in a couple of graded races on turf as well as several more on dirt.

His record as a stud has not been all that great although he has not covered that many mares. He has sired a couple of stakes winners including Tin Man Commin. At this point he has not been given a chance to prove or disprove his worth as a stud.

Sim Life –Not much to talk about here. He has nine sim runners. One is a stakes winner and another has run a 112-speed figure. #24415 Tinners Tire (Nureyev X Miswaki) is the stakes winner (No turf tries?). She has not raced in a while and her best running days were a long time ago. #47032 Native Colony Way (Pleasant Colony X Native Dancer) ran big a few races back but has tailed off recently. Both runners did their best running in sprints but I still think Tinners Way will produce better route horses. So far Native Colony is the fastest runner on turf as well with an 85-speed figure.

Breeding Suggestions – In real life he was bred to several mares from the Raise a Native line. I’m not so sure that is the best way to go.  Of all the top sire lines available I think the Raise a Native line had the least success when paired with Secretariat. Since The Minstrel is already on the dam side of his pedigree its only natural to think about pairing him with the Raise a Native line. I think the Raise a Native line will work best in the dam’s dam sire slot. Actually Northern Dancer will be in the fourth generation of Tinners Way’s progeny. So using a grandson of Northern Dancer will give you a 4X4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer. Nasrullah will also be in the fourth generation of his progeny’s pedigree and inbreeding to Nasrullah seems to work in the Sim.

Sire lines I think will work well are Roberto, Buckpasser, Ribot, In Reality, Damascus, grandsons or Northern Dancer or Nasrullah. Tinners Way has a dosage Index of 3.00 and was a very good ten-furlong horse so I would try to make sure I did not breed him to too much speed. He should be able to produce both turf and dirt runners. Tinners Way is inexpensive at the end of the week costing around 20 BPs.  (Tinners Way X Blushing Groom X Ribot) or (Tinners Way X Red Ransom X Buckpasser)

Bargain Bred – Since Tinners Way is inexpensive at the end of the week that should increase our chances of being able to get a solid bargain bred. (Tinners Way X Silver Buck X Prove Out) Silver Buck at one time held the track record for ten furlongs at Belmont 1:59.3 and Prove Out beat Secretariat and holds the second fastest time for a mile and a half over a dirt course with 2:254/5.  Prove Out also set two other track records during his career. Worth a shot.

What to Expect –Expect your Tinners Way horse to run well as a two year old. Depending on what dam sires you have chosen Tinners Way should produce a horse that will prefer a route. Also he seems plenty capable of producing turf runners although he has not had a good turf runner in the Sim.
