Wheelaway – is by Unbridled. His dam sire is Damascus and his dam’s dam sire is Cyane. Wheelaway only raced seven times and all seven were as a three year old. He made a splash in his debut then went on to win the Tampa Bay Derby. He finished third in the Bluegrass behind High Yield and More Than Ready. He went into the derby pretty lightly raced but managed to finish fifth the year Fusaichi Pegasus won the derby. He later ran fourth in the Belmont behind Commendable, Aptitude, and Unshaded. 

Wheelaway’s pedigree screams for Northern Dancer influence. Storm Cat, Danzig or Nijinsky lines fit very well. His pedigree also sets up in a way that using a grandson of Mr. Prospector, as dam sire will create nice 4X4 inbreeding. Other good dam sire prospects would be Seattle Slew and Sons, Secretariat, Buck passer, or In Reality. His pedigree is very flexible you can go many different ways and not go wrong. His dosage index is a 2.13 indicating he has a good amount of stamina.

Wheelaway only has thirty-seven sim progeny. He has produced two stakes winners. The second place finisher in last weeks Blue Grass Derby #627 Tern Of The Wheel and #75902 Wild Risk Li. Tern of the Wheel’s dam sire is Smarten which creates the odd 3X4 inbreeding to Cyane and his dam’s dam sire is Sea-Bird which produces a 5X5 inbreeding to Raise a Native. Tern of the wheel is the only Wheelaway runner to break the 100-speed figure barrier. Wild Risk Li is a stakes winner on turf. His dam sire is Game Plan, who is from the Northern Dancer line, and his dam’s dam sire is Rhodes, who is a son of Mr. Prospector creating a 4X4 inbreeding with Mr. Prospector.

Take away his two stakes winners and he has not produced anything. In his defense his three year olds are not all that well bred and about half his progeny are two year olds. His two year olds are much better bred. He currently has sixteen two year olds and three have already broke the 70-speed figure barrier. Two on dirt (77, 79) and one on turf (71). At the end of the week you get to use him for around one hundred breeding points.
