You and I

This week in the breeding corner we get back to the older sires. You And I is by Kris S. His dam sire is UPS and his dam’s dam sire is Nyangal. The dam side of his pedigree is made up of sires that are not real well known. His dosage index is a low 1.74 however he was better known as a sprinter miler. He did win the Brooklyn Handicap at a mile and an eighth but that was probably his limit distance wise. He was a grade I winner and won stakes at ages 2,3, and 4.

Real Life- You and I’s best-known real life runner is You who was a multiple grade I winning filly. He also sired Sweet Nanette who I believe has Sim ties and a horse I have scene run many times Miss Photogenic. He also sired Marimer who was a champion older mare in Peru and In the Woods who was Champion 3yr old filly in Scandinavia. See a theme developing? His top five listed runners are all female. As far as bloodlines go Mr. Prospector sire lines produced 2 of the top five runners (In the Woods and You). A very wide variety of bloodlines have been used. Even though he seems to pass along a good deal of stamina his runners seem best between seven and nine furlongs

Sim Life – There are only 49 You and I progeny in the Sim. Usually copying real life breeding does not work well in the Sim but duplicates of You’s pedigree (You and I X Homebuilder X Briartic) have been used 3 times. Two of them have run 100+ speed figures and the other 1 has run mid 90’s. Hombuilder has been used as a dam sire a couple of more times with one breaking the 100 speed figure mark and the other in the 90’s. The Nasrullah line is present in every single one of his progeny that have broken the 100-speed figure mark. All the off spring using Homebuilder (or any son of Mr. Prospector) as a dam sire produce a 5X5 inbreeding to Nashua who is a son of Nasrullah. Other Nasrullah influenced dam sires or dam’s dam sires used were Majestic Prince, and Boldnesian.

A couple of expensive dam sires have been used like Summer Squall, Deputy Minister, and Forty Niner. The Summer Squall did not turn out well and the Deputy Minister and Forty Niner offspring are just three years old so the jury is still out on them. His Sim runners run horribly past 10f just like real life. They prefer the dirt to the turf but they are not terrible on the turf. Only three two year olds so far this year and they have not been bad with top speed figures for each 56,66 and 61.

Breeding Suggestions- I think the Mr. Prospector sire lines work better than the Northern Dancer sire line with You and I. The Nasrullah line seems a favorable cross. You could go a number of ways but I think I would look to breed You and I to speed influenced dam sires from any sire line. I would love to see Secretariat used as a dam sire. That would be a sire from the Nasrullah line plus it would give you a 4X4 inbreeding to Princequillo. Dream breeding You and I X Secretariat X Mr. Prospector. A more realistic breeding You and I X Crafty Prospector X The Minstrel.

Bargain Bred-You and I falls down to around 60 points by weeks end. Homebuilder falls around 28 points by weeks end. Throw in a really cheap dam sire maybe from the Northern Dancer or Nasrullah line and that could be a solid bargain bred.  You and I X Homebuilder X Warrshan. Of course Homebuilder has been used several times already so maybe try You and I X Excavate X Lucky North.

What To Expect – His runners should run well at two, three and four year olds however his better runners did not run to top form until their late 3yr old season or 4yr old season. His runners will likely prefer dirt to turf and run best between 6-9 furlongs. 30% of his current runners have won at least one allowance hopefully we have narrowed those odds down a little more.
