Seattle Slew Dam Sires

I have not touched any dam sires yet in the Breeding Corner. This week I want to bring you information on a couple of sons of Seattle Slew. Their names are probably familiar to most people so it may be nothing new. You may know of them but just seem to forget about them when it comes to breeding. These guys all have solid results and have not been bred to the expensive well known sires.

Slewacide (5957) is by Seattle Slew. His dam sire is Buckpasser and his dam’s dam sire is Summer Tan. Slewacide only had one career race. Slewacide has stamina with a dosage index of 1.92 and will pass that along to his offspring. He is most famous for being the dam sire of Funny Cide. His pedigree is such that he should be able to produce dirt runners as well as turf runners.

In the sim as a dam sire he has produced faster sprinters to this point. He is the dam sire of seven stakes winners from eighty-seven off spring. Here are the sires used with Slewacide that produced stakes winners. Distorted Humor (2), Phone Trick, Spectacular Bid, Petionville, Atticus, Mello Roll. Only one is a stakes winner in turf (Atticus). Solid list of sires but no Storm Cats.

In a lot of cases when looking at progeny stakes wins most of the winners are older but Slewacide has three very solid lightly raced three-year-olds. #33856 Theda Barracuda (Distorted Humor), #79965 Scortch (Atticus), and #62450 Distorted Wife (Distorted Humor). He also has two very solid looking two year olds both sired by Ecton Park.

Slewacide is an excellent choice for dam sire when using a sire that already has a Mr. Prospector X Northern Dancer cross. He gets down to around 60 BPs at the weeks end so he can be ideal for using with cheaper sires as well as squeezing an expensive sire into a budget.

Seattle Song (5661) is by Seattle Slew. His dam sire is Prince Blessed (Princequillo) and his dam’s dam sire is Flushing (Mahmoud).  Seattle Song had a very nice racing career with three wins and four places from nine starts. Two of those wins were grade I races as were most of is places. He has some stamina with a dosage index of 2.05 and should pass that along to his progeny. He did his running on turf but has thrown good dirt runners in real life most notably Tiznow. As a matter of fact Cee’s Tizzy (Relaunch) has mated with Cee’s Song (Seattle Song) to produce Tiznow, Budroyal, Tizbud, and Tizdubai all stakes winners.

Seattle Song is the dam sire of three stakes winners in the sim. All three were stakes winners on turf. The sires of those three winners are Smokester, Yankee Victor, and Monarchos. In this case of copy the real life breeding Seattle Song has been paired with Cee’s Tizzy and the result has been awful. There are eleven such runners with only two allowance winners and the top speed figure of the eleven runners is 93. So do not try to copy Tiznow’s pedigree it does not work.

He is the dam sire of only five two year olds so far. Two of them look ok at the point the other three do not look so good. Seattle Song has produced some nice runners but I think there is some untapped potential here. As a dam sire he produces better dirt than turf runners but I think he makes a better dam sire for turf influenced sires. He gets down to about 60 BPs by the end of the week so could be a solid choice for those cheap turf sires. Again he would fit well with those sires that already have that Mr.Prospector X Northern Dancer cross. It would be interesting to see what might happen if paired with Cozzene or With Apporval, or Red Ransom.
